Digital illustration finds its application in several areas where information through computer is delivered. With the advent of advanced digital technology, the demand for digital illustrators has highly increased. If you are new to this field and wants to know the benefit or pursuing it as your career accomplishment, then this article is the best place for you to know about everything regarding digital illustration. It is actually an innovative technique through which you can create original artwork and convert them in digital form.

Digital illustration has replaced the traditional need for hand drawing and thus is capable of giving more flexibility for the new emerging illustrators to combine their skills and knowledge with all the available advanced tools and software to create highly appealing computer arts. You can make use of innovative image editing software and illustration techniques to create digitally enhanced images that become more realistic and accurate when completed. While creating unique art forms with the help of computer, you can enhance your skill in providing better visual impact to the illustrations in shorter time. You can utilize more advanced digital tools, including the 3D features to create 3 dimensional models of life forms and nature. You can also manipulate the digitally enhanced art work in such a way that it can be corrected and edited easily. You can add or delete images so that it gives you better control on them.

A digital illustrator is trained with the knowledge of using all the available digital tools of today and is updated with newer features added day by day. They make use of graphic tablet and other digital features to create amazing artworks. An illustrator can draw on the graphic tablet with a pen attached to it through the computer. You can also use the mouse of the computer for creating digital illustrations. But in most cases, the pen provides more control in drawing than the mouse. The graphic tablets are also designed with better pressure sensitivity that enhances the comfort for drawing. You can either use a raster based digital illustration or vector based illustration. Drawing software is mostly vector-based and the image editing software being raster-based.

A portrait artist attempts to recreate real-life pictures while a caricature artist focuses on exaggeration. Some over-exaggerate facial features; this is only a matter of style. For example, will the sketches be over-pronounced or will it just be a sized-up original object? To what degree should you combine the thin, thick, and dark lines?

Always start with the shortest subject if you are drawing multiple subjects on a single page. Rather than draw horizontally, stack them vertically on your paper. Art class 101 lessons of drawing circles for the head and then filling the eyes, nose and mouth is reversed. In sketching caricatures draw the insides of the face first and mentally get an idea of where the cheeks and chin will fall on the paper. Lightly sketch some boundaries, but leave finishing touches yet. Begin with the eyes, the top eyelids first. Observe the distance, size and shape.

Next draw the outline of the nose and note the relationship between the eyes and the nose. If your subject has a large nose, use thick lines, here is a good opportunity to exaggerate.

When drawing the mouth, pay attention to the distance from the nose to the mouth. Observe the top lip. Is it thin or pouty? For wide-mouthed subjects, over-exaggeration works well here. Use softer lines.

The face is drawn in a top to bottom order. Next, draw the chin, cheeks, and jaw in that particular order. The chin provides another opportunity to exaggerate. Drawing the chin first also automatically suggest how the jaw line ends.

Remember this while learning how to become a caricature artist – exaggerations do not always have to be up-scaled.

Next, draw the ears and the inside hairline. At this point, the finished caricature will clearly show if or not they have a big forehead.
Round up by drawing in the hair and head. If they have hair, be generous, bear in mind that the outer perimeter of the head is an edge so a thick line is needed.

Next, draw in the bottom eyelid and add the eye bags if present, next, eyeballs and return to finish the bridge of the nose. Next draw the cheeks, take note; some people have more cheek structure than others.

The final steps are to add the minor details such as freckles, scars, and facial hair and your caricature is almost complete. Add finishing touches and now you have successfully mastered how to become a caricature artist!

Cartoons are fun. Well almost. If you are like me you certainly love to watch cartoon figures. But drawing cartoons is another story particularly if you are not aware of the basics. If the thought of creating beautiful cartoon characters gives you high, read on, here you will find some tips that you can readily use to improve your skills and reduce the time taken to create beautiful cartoon characters. There are certain things that are same for every style of drawing, be it realistic drawing or cartoony, now we will go quickly through the basics before getting specific to cartoony style.

Clean your hands before starting your drawing. The paper you use for your work should be of good quality. Low grade, off colored paper will make your drawing look pale. Your first sketch should be made with light lines and for finalizing you should use deep-colored and prominent lines –so choose your pencils carefully. Many times beginners find drawing a smooth line difficult. Remember drawing smooth lines will be easier if you do not support your hand on your wrist like we are used to do while writing. Doodling and drawing some circular shapes just before you start will also help you to draw smoothly.

Learn to draw facial features and hand carefully. Hands are more difficult. Experts often judge a person’s drawing ability from how well he can draw human hands. So practice drawing hands with care. Study about basic forms and proportions of human body. Learn about basics of human anatomy and various ratios of human figures. As a cartoon creator you will have certain liberties, you do not need to bind yourself with strict body proportions rules. You can draw four fingered (Thumb + Three) hand that makes your work a bit easier. But one challenge you will face while drawing cartoons –cartoon characters needs to be more expressive and certainly you have to create this expressiveness with some lines drawn with your pencil.

Art has the potential to inspire some deep emotions in each of us. We can look at a great piece of art and feel inspired and moved deeply, finding a form of beauty in the world that we never before really though existed. This is not the only purpose of art, however. Art can also be quite humorous, making us laugh and enjoy things by looking at them in an exaggerated way. There is a certain type of art which takes people and puts them into an exaggerated light. These are caricatures, which you surely have seen at some point during your life at an amusement park or perhaps on the wall of a steakhouse.

Caricatures take a person, often a celebrity, and draw them in a way that highlights some of that person’s most recognizable traits and features. These turn out to be very humorous portrayals of the person and can often make a person laugh. The same is true when these portraits are made about celebrities. They are humorous and they can feature some of that celebrity’s biggest traits. Just because this is not a realistic, moving depiction of the person, that doesn’t mean that this is any less art than the other.

Most celebrities have a great sense of humor about any caricatures done about them. They know that they have very exaggerated traits sometimes and this is what makes them powerful as those actors, politicians, or athletes. They have a trait which makes them incredibly recognizable to the public at a single glance. They are usually only happy to enjoy these caricatures as long as these portraits do not get too personal or insulting. Many times, the celebrity will even autograph these caricatures, turning them into a great example of autographed art.

A caricature can often be found adorning the walls of popular restaurants. Often, these restaurants will decorate their space with personal touches of pop culture. When these restaurants are famous restaurants, celebrities will often come in to eat there. This can be a fun event for the restaurant because they can often impress the celebrity with their food and make a fan of their service for life. In return, they usually want to commemorate the fact that the celebrity has eaten at their establishment, so in the spirit of fun, they will have someone who is talented at drawing make a caricature of that celebrity. Often, that celebrity will sign the photo and it will be hung on the wall of the establishment for everyone to enjoy.

The basic art of pencil drawing still remains persistent, among the beginners and even among the experts, to get an idea of the desired shape or structure of an object. In earlier times the rough sketches that were drawn, before the outcome is obtained, were known as cartoon drawing. Though it may seem cartoon drawing is pretty simple, considering the fact that all we have to draw are deformed figures, but still one must think twice. The reason behind this is that if we have ever portrayed a cartoon character in a particular shape and size, which was appreciated by various people, we would have to come up with the same deformed structure the next time we illustrate it anywhere. It is also a time consuming job, as in cartoon drawing one has to look after every careful detail of the body, simply because it is an illustration and has to be as self-explanatory as possible.

The toughest challenge ever faced while drawing a cartoon is making animations, as the same picture has to be repeated over number of times with slight alterations, leading to the movement of a single hand or any other body part. It would be worth imagining the amount of hard work that is put in the formation of a single animated video, as the cartoonists have to go through numerous cartoon drawings to get every motion perfect. Cartoon drawing has been taken up as a profession nowadays, due to its growing popularity among the people all over the world. Although the children are mostly attracted to cartoon drawing, on various occasions it has been seen that cartoon drawing has mesmerized quite a number of adults. Since there are no restrictions to cartoon drawing, various issues, be it political, legal, or general, may be addressed by the means of cartoon drawing.

Cartoon drawings are used in several aspects of our daily life, ranging from advertisements to entertainment and are quite readily accepted. With the urge of cartoon industries, there is also a requirement for imparting the art over to others, and for this purpose there are various institutes that give special training on cartoon drawing. No matter how it is done, the basic step of learning to draw proper shapes and structures, with diffidence, comes before anything; unless you master that, you would not be able to perform an art that has evolved from the elementary level of painting or sketching.

Just say the word “caricature” and everyone conjures up a mental picture of a street corner caricature artist churning out a 10 minute creation. Annibale Carracci is famous for inventing caricatures in the 17th century when he created art that was focused on meaning rather than beauty. This quickly gained traction in political cartoons where one picture could truly equate to a thousand words and convey a meaning like nothing else could.

Now the latest link in the evolution, a caricature from photos, is growing in popularity as a means to convey meaning, not in a political sense, but in a more personal sense. Growing in popularity because of the internet, this new-age art captures relationships like nothing else. Just as the power of a political caricature dwarfed that of a photo, the impact of a caricature from photos dwarfs the photos themselves. Why? Because they can incorporate, embellish, emphasize, or even hide various aspects giving the artist and the person who has commissioned him/her, true control of the meaning conveyed.

This new age art is growing in popularity as a means to capture personal relationships, memories, and even dreams in an artistic and fun manner. A perfect example is singer Fergie and actor Josh Duhamel using a caricature of themselves on their wedding invitation. This caricature from photos is true art and grabbed everyone’s attention – helping move this form of art to the mainstream. Everyday people had already discovered the impact that custom caricatures have as gifts for various occasions like retirements, wedding attendants, and anniversaries. Caricatures lend themselves to meaningful occasions that celebrate personal relationships and experiences.

The advent of the internet makes it very easy to find an on-line caricature artist. You can simply upload pictures, and describe the scene you want the artist to draw. At the same time, caricature artists had to evolve not only to offer services on the internet but to use the new digital art tools available. As you would expect, the left-brain, right-brain thing makes it impossible for many or even most to make the transition. Today’s caricatures from photos have evolved into an art form that is light years ahead of street corner caricatures and their predecessors and are becoming a mainstream gift of choice.

Basically, the caricature maker has a database of different ready-drawn features. These features are categorized into their particular features, such as eyes, eyebrows, nose, mouth, ears, hair, and face shape. All you need to do is to choose the feature you would like, and then select from the options of the feature you have selected. For example, if you chose the eye feature, you would have a selection of eye shapes to choose from, be it bigger, smaller, rounder or even longer eyes. Do not worry that the shape of the feature is not as big or round as you want. The program allows you to change the shapes as desired. Pick the closest matching feature to the one you have in mind, and then edit accordingly. After you have selected and edited each feature, you can see the results of your creativity.

Another thing you can do is to upload a photo of a face, and make it into an animated caricature. The program will transform the face into a stamp, which you can easily reuse with the click of a button. This allows you to choose the background and wardrobe you would like to have the face on. After that, you can choose to download or dispose of your end product. Downloading it can be done by saving the caricature in.jpeg or.gif file formats to your computer. You also have the option of putting your caricatures online in any websites that supports HTML script codes, by copying the codes and pasting it into the desired website. An alternative is also to send the picture to your e-mail.

Some of these programs offer more advanced services, where a real caricature artist draws the caricature for you. Usually, you will need to pay for the services. Such services can include a personalized caricature of you which can be used as a gift idea, or even made into an animated caricature. Usually, you will have to send in photos of faces of which you want caricatures drawn, along with the background and wardrobe of your choice.

Cartoons have always been the first love of kids. They watch cartoons on television more than adults watch the news. Animated characters attract their attention coupled with the child friendly story-line and sound effects. In early school days, drawing is first lesson that is introduced to kids almost the same time with writing letters. It is not surprising that some kids love to draw their favorite cartoon characters for their drawing assignments, and even sometimes to the point of not paying attention in class. Kids love cartoons and it is a common phenomenon that they will likely to start drawing their favorite cartoon heroes at this stage. Some kids will develop their artistic talents through this habit while other kids will eventually stop drawing cartoons and just content themselves with watching them on television.

At this point, those who have developed and maintained their love for cartoon drawing must be given more attention to help them improve this talent that would most likely be considered as a career. Professional cartoon artists today started drawing at a very early age, even when the television was not yet popular. The great cartoonist Walt Disney started drawing the world famous Mickey Mouse on the garage of the house where he lives while fascinated by the creatures running around. Parents should encourage their children who they have seen to have these unique talents rather than to be a reason to scold them for not getting serious with their studies.

Appreciation is a form of reward and generally increases the behavior reinforced. They will feel special in this way, and they will know that you are also happy with what they are doing. Instead of getting mad at him drawing in his notebook and everywhere else, but him a drawing book for his sketches. In this way, he/she will not anymore draw in his notebooks and books but in the drawing book given by you. Enrollment on a summer art program work in many ways. First, he gets to improve his skill in cartoon drawing, and he gets to spend his vacation productively. Further, you can do other things knowing that he is doing something safe and enjoying it.
